It’s nearing the end of June … mind boggling how fast time goes. We’d like to take this opportunity to reach out to each and every one of you and tell you how much we appreciate your membership, your involvement and all the support we’ve received. We’re looking forward to continuing our quest to make a difference to world famine, one person at a time, one step at a time with as much awareness and funding as we can generate.
As you may, or may not know, the program we’ve used from the beginning is called NING. It was offered to users as a free website for social networking. It’s served us well and we thank the people at NING for their platform and support. Earlier in the year, NING made an announcement that effective July 15, 2010, they would no longer offer this platform for free. Since our existence is about generating funds, every cent that comes in is assigned to charity. We don’t have a float or a wonderful benefactor; we just plug away, one day at a time and often into the early hours of the morning (in all time zones). We’ve had to make a decision. We decided to move our network here to Spruz.

I’m another blogging South African - passionate about social media
and social activism. As I see it, the two go well hand-in-hand. For
the last year and a half I’ve worked for the United Nations World Food Programme based at the headquarters in Rome.
I’m fortunate enough to love my job – no,really. Why? As the online marketing manager, my job combines my two passions. I get to spend hours every day, helping to feed people who desperately need it by using online tools like Twitter, Facebook and You Tube to raise awareness and funds… and encouraging others to do the same. Social media has been revolutionary by giving enormous power to the person on the street. Whereas in the past, traditional media held the reins on deciding what the masses talked about (and knew about), now the average person is often dictating what the media covers. How we use that power will be
really telling.
